Here's another one of the trips that I mentioned in my blog about day trips. This one is very convenient in the Albany area. It's Rensselaer Lake, also known Six Mile Waterworks.

It's so close that it actually is in Albany and Colonie, on Fuller Road, near I-90, Washington Avenue and SUNY. It is also part of the Pine Bush Preserve.

Six Mile has plenty of picnic areas, some with grills, a pavilion and playground for the kids.

You can walk on the trail around the water and check out some of the beautiful scenery. If you're lucky, you can see some wildlife, or watch a train go by on the adjoining train tracks.

Fishing and boating are allowed, but you can't swim. Because it's so close to the highways (I-90 and I-87), it is a little noisier than some of the other trips I mentioned, but still a great place for a quick day trip. On the trail, you even walk under the bridges of the highways. Have you checked it out yet?
