As New York nears 70 percent of the population being vaccinated for COVID-19, the demand for testing has dropped considerably.

In fact, it has dropped so much, Governor Cuomo announced today the state is 'demobilizing' all state-run drive-thru COVID testing sites. The closings will begin this Friday, June 11th. With the demand for COIVD testing falling by 88 percent from January to May, there is no longer a need for the sites, which administered 1.6 million COVID tests during the time they were open. The Governor's office said by closing the sites the state can put more focus on vaccination efforts.

Testing sites closing, the specter of most COVID guidelines being lifted in the coming days, and the latest infection rate announcement are just amazing signs that we really have turned the corner with the pandemic. The Governor's office says the infection rate has now declined for 66 straight days, going below .50 percent today. It looks like 2021 is simply going to be the summer things got normal again.
