County Waste has partnered with us to honor those in our communities who are truly making a difference.

All throughout 2015 and 2016, we will be recognizing one “hero” per month based on their inspirational feats, work helping their neighbors and everyday passion.

This month we honor Robert Agans Jr., a career firefighter from Niskayuna who has spent 11 years working the job and a paramedic with Rotterdam EMS.

Robert's passion, according to his nominator, is taking new firefighters and paramedics under his wing and teaching them the skills needed for the job. "He has the true meaning of brotherhood in his heart," she said.

Throughout his career, Robert has had to work through some tragic fire accidents, but has also welcomed new life into the world, having delivered two babies, in addition to saving the life of a local man.

At home, Robert is the father of two boys, 3 and 9, and has been supportive of his wife as she has returned to school full-time.

Learn more about Agans Jr. through an interview we did with him in the video below, and click here to see how you can nominate a hero next month, when we’re honoring a local person in the Navy. The winning hero will receive tickets to a Siena Men’s Basketball game in January or February!
