New Netflix Reality Show To Feature Upstate NY Institution
My father is the greatest chef I know. This isn't just a "he's my family" sort of thing, he is a legitimately talented cook with years of experience behind him, and it all started at the Culinary Institute of America, right here in Upstate, NY.
Now, Netflix is shining a spotlight on his alma mater with a new reality series that aims to pit the best young chefs in the business against each other to see who comes out on top.
What is the Culinary Institute of America?
What would become the CIA first opened in New Haven, Connecticut in 1946 as the "New Haven Restaurant Institute". It's primary goal was to train veterans of World War II in the culinary arts. This flourished for some time, changing its name every few years until they landed on the "Culinary Institute of America" in 1951.
In 1972, the campus was moved to Hyde Park, NY, at the old St. Andrew-on-Hudson Jesuit novitiate site. Since then, it has become one of the premiere culinary schools not just in America, but in the world, rivalling even France's "Le Cordon Bleu".

Next Gen Chef
Netflix is now lifting the veil on the mystique of the CIA. Next Gen Chef, premiering on the streaming platform on September 17th, is meant to be an in depth look at one of the highest regarded institutions on earth.
The program will feature 21 chefs, all under the age of 30 will be taken through a series of progressively more difficult challenges (and judged by CIA alumni). By the end of the show, one chef will be crowned the "Leading Chef of the Next Generation".
