After months of declining COVID cases, the infection rate is starting to head back up.

You have probably been seeing or reading the stories in the news recently about rising COVID cases and the presence of the new Delta variant in states across the nation, and positivity rates are on the rise again as well right here in the Empire State. According to the Governor's office, the seven-day rolling average of positive COVID test results has crept back up to 1.04 percent.

The good news is the infection state is still incredibly low compared to the worst parts of the pandemic, but it is noteworthy that it has reached its highest point since May, and yesterday's 956 positive test results were triple the numbers from late June according to New York Upstate story. Now there is some good news: one of the more serious stats health officials look at is hospitalizations,\. Those have remained stable in New York and were in fact down again, plus the number of deaths remains low in today's report from the Governor,

With New York now wide open this summer and with the presence of the variant, even with the positivity rate creeping up, one has to assume it is still encouraging news for us locally that New York's solid vaccination rate is doing its job to manage the virus.  Unlike around holidays pre-vaccinations, people are getting out to see each other and enjoying life without the huge spikes we were used to seeing in COVID Cases early on.
