There are many pros and cons to living in New York. According to experts, which side wins?
Full disclosure, I personally love living in New York. But I hate the cost of living here! Love for a location and lifestyle while loathing the cost can be mutually exclusive. But I will say this: some of the services we appreciate in New York, specifically our consistently great school systems from town to town, are a benefit of our high cost of living, or tax burden.
The financial experts at Wallethub recently put together all those pros and cons of living to rank the best states to live in nationwide. And guess what? New York's rank may surprise you. While our high cost of living is a con, Wallethub feels at the pros of life in the Empire State far outweigh it.
Wallethub Says New York Is One of the Best States To Live In
Which states are the best to live in? The financial gurus at Wallethub have done the research to determine of the best of the best based on cost of living, education, health, local economies, quality of life, and safety. Landing at #1 on the list is our neighbors in Massachusetts, and New Jersey (#3) and New Hampshire (#5) also landed in the top 5.
And not too far behind at #9 - its the state of New York! While the Empire State ranked almost dead last (#47) in affordability, it lands at #1 with quality of life and #5 in safety. With respectable finishes in economy (#24) and education ranks (#18) the Wallethub equation all adds up to New York being among the 10 best United States to live in.
While it would be nice to enjoy the perks of life in New York with a lower price tag, it still is a pretty great place to live.
