New Colonie Baseball Coach Brings Youth and Swagger to the Raiders
Mike Morrissey has been named the baseball coach of the Colonie Raiders varsity baseball team. After serving as the pitching coach for the team under Kevin Halburian, he now takes over at just 24 years old! It will be a challenge for the young man but he is up for it. He talked to us about the opportunity above and reminisced about his playing days with us that includes playing alongside a current major league baseball player!
Since 2010 the betting favorite in the Travers Stakes has only won three times, and one of those times was last year with Tiz the Law for Managing Partner Jack Knowlton. This year Essential Quality came through with an impressive showing in the Travers on Saturday, capping of a memorable meet for trainer Brad Cox. Essential Quality is clearly the best in the seven horse field, and trainer Brad Cox has already a banner meet by winning the both the Jim Dandy and Whitney Stakes. Cox put the finishing touches on a memorable 2021 meet with a win Saturday in the Mid-Summer Derby. Essential Quality was challenged by Midnight Bourbon, but he likes challenges, and has won them all except the Kentucky Derby. It’s back to back years the Travers favorite has won the biggest race of the summer, and Essentially Quality is not done. The Breeders Cup is around the corner and we are all looking forward to the next step for EQ. Overall though, 44,000 fans is a great showing and it was a great day at the track full of non-stop good races that included a horse trying to bite another horse, a Bob Baffert Filly getting it done and a Travers performance to remember.
