A 77-year-old Castleton woman was paying attention when a couple of people snatched her purse.

On New Year’s Day, before she put her grocery bags in her car in the East Greenbush Walmart parking lot, she carefully put her pocketbook on the front seat of her car and closed the door. As she was transferring her groceries, a woman suddenly came over to her car, opened the door and allegedly stole the purse.

The victim chased the suspect and got a good look at the vehicle that the suspect got into. She also got the license plate number. She then called police on her cell phone and gave them all of the information Dispatchers then broadcast an all points bulletin to other police agencies. Within 15 minutes, Schodack Police and New York State Police tracked down and captured the suspects.

According to a press release from the East Greenbush Police Department, two people were arrested and sent to the Rensselaer County Jail. 26-year-old Jack D. Martone and 41-year-old Shannon L. Rose, both from Castleton, were charged with Grand Larceny in the fourth degree and Petit Larceny.
