Little Jimmy Dickens: Pictures Through the Years
When Little Jimmy Dickens joined the Grand Ole Opry, Harry Truman was president and a gallon of gas went for 16 cents. The first picture in this photo gallery of the legend’s life was taken two years later, with his little girl Pamela — just able to walk — by his side.
The once dark-haired, handsome country gentleman would go on to adopt rhinestones and the nickname Tater as he became a country favorite and a bucket list artist for any true country music fan. He was known for his music, but more for his comedy. These photos show both.
During the last 10 years of Dickens' life he found a whole new generation of fans thanks to music videos. Brad Paisley included him in more than one vid, and asked to him to play along on stage while hosting the CMA Awards.
Included in this gallery are pictures from every important period of Little Jimmy Dickens’ life. The most recent photo was snapped in October 2014. During his final Grand Ole Opry performance two months later fans would describe him as looking healthy and strong.
Days later Dickens suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. The 94-year-old died of cardiac arrest on January 2.
