On Wednesday afternoon, what started as a normal day at Saratoga Race Course turned out to be very frightening.

A lightning bolt struck a large pine tree at the Saratoga Race Course. The tree exploded into several pieces, including some pretty big pieces, destroying some picnic tables and a tent for one of the vendors, Backyard Dogs ‘N Brew.

It also startled some of our friends from News 10 ABC. They were set up to broadcast their newscast live from the track. The tree was very close to where they were set up.

When I saw this story on News 10 ABC last night, this one hit kind of close to home for me because I was broadcasting my show on WGNA from the track on Monday afternoon, not far from where the lightning struck. It's one of those things that when you see it, you kind of get a chill up your spine.

Luckily, there were no injuries. Because of the time of day, and because of the heat, there weren’t that many people in the area.
