Sad Outcome for This Missing Elderly Hunter In the Capital Region
Sad outcome in the case of a missing hunter in Rensselaer County as officials find the man deceased.

On Saturday November 29th, according to a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) press release, Forest Rangers in Rensselaer County received word that a hunter had gone missing.
At approximately 6pm on Saturday Forest Ranger Jackson joined Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Deputies and New York State Police in the search for a missing hunter on private property off Gardiner Hill Road in the town of Nassau, NY.
Family members expected the 71-year-old from Averill Park home well before dark. He was known to hunt the property between 6am to 10:30am. Ranger Jackson found tracks in the snow leading to the hunter, who was found deceased. Hoags Corners Fire Department assisted with the carry out.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services of New York states, minutes matter when a child or family member is missing, especially if the individual has a cognitive impairment or disability putting them at greater risk of harm.
Here are some tips as to what to do when a family member goes missing:
- There is no waiting period to make a missing person report
- Call the police immediately
- Provide a current photo/description
- What was the person was wearing when last seen?
- If the missing person drives, be sure to tell authorities about the make, model and license plate number of their vehicle
- Contact the Missing Persons Clearinghouse at 800-346-3543 for additional assistance.
