Science Says On Hot Days Some Beers Can Hydrate You
New York is currently bracing for some very hot weather for the next few days. Heat index is set to push into the 100 degree zone and higher so we are all going to do our best to stay cool. Whether that's by staying in the air conditioning, finding some shade, or relaxing in the pool, we are going to try our best to beat this heat heading into the Fourth of July.

One of the best things you can do for your body during these hot days is to make sure you're drinking enough liquids and staying hydrated. Obviously water is going to be your best option but there are good chances that you'll be consuming more than just water, especially on the weekends during the summer.

As a big fan of diet soda I always remember them saying that anything but water will dehydrate you - which is sort of true. Anything with high levels of sugar, caffeine or alcohol does have a dehydrating affect on your body. However since diet soda is artificially sweetened and made of mostly water. Same goes for regular strength coffee. However higher levels of caffeine will dehydrate so energy drinks or espresso is not recommended. What about alcohol?
Can beer hydrate you?
Apparently some forms of beer can actually have a hydrating affect. They provide the same as water, but there is a catch. The beer that can hydrate you has to be below 4%, which seems a little ridiculous because what beer is lower than 4% that most of us are consuming? I guess non-alcoholic ones, but I don't think anyone is drinking those that doesn't absolutely have to.
Beer that is 2% alcohol is going to hydrate you just fine, but when it starts to dip into the 4% range that's when they found it begins to dehydrate you. I guess that means that vodka, bourbon, and rum are all out as far as hydrating drinks. You can still find some lower ABV beers on the low end of 4% that can give you a little hydration, but once they get to 5% and higher there is no hydration at all.
Basically, water is going to be the best. Do yourself a favor and add some electrolytes to it and really super charge yourself.
