RPI Hockey Talks ‘Freakout’, This Weekend’s Western NY Trip and More [LISTEN]
This is the most important time of the year for the RPI Engineers' men's hockey program.
The team has one more weekend of regular season play left, as they visit Colgate and Cornell on Friday and Saturday, respectively. From there, the seeds will be determined for the 2024 ECAC Hockey Playoffs.
Heading into this weekend, RPI currently sits in 11th place in the conference, with 21 points on the year. They sit three points behind Yale and Princeton, both of whom are tied for ninth place.
More importantly, however, the team is four points behind Harvard, who currently sits in eighth place. The teams ranked fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth at season's end will all host a one-game playoff the following weekend, and though the chances are somewhat slim, RPI still has a mathematical chance to leap-frog these teams, and play one final game at Houston Field House in 2024.
With all of that in mind, we welcomed three members of the RPI men's hockey team --- freshman Tyler Hotson, junior Dovar Tinling and senior Jack Agnew --- into our studio on Wednesday on The Drive with Dan Bahl.
Each player had a unique journey that led them to RPI. Hotson joined the team this year, having played junior hockey in the years prior. Tinling joined the team this season as well, but spent the last year-plus back in junior hockey, after a brief stint at the University of Vermont.
Agnew, meanwhile, is in his third season with the Engineers, having transferred from Boston College ahead of the 2021-22 season.
