The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are set to match-up against one another in the Divisional Round on Saturday night. The Eagles dominated during the regular season, receiving a first round bye after winning the NFC's No.1 seed. The Giants, meanwhile, are one of the league's biggest surprises in recent memory, and after upsetting No. 3 seeded Minnesota, seem poised to do it again.

These two franchises have met four times in the playoffs before this year: 1981, 2000, 2006 and 2008. The Giants won the first two match-ups, but the Eagles have controlled the most recent two games.

No matter what happens, one team will leave Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday with a 3-2 lead in the all-time playoff series between these two historic franchises. Before we look forward, let's look back, and re-live the memories of the previous playoff classics between New York and Philadelphia.

1981 Wild Card Round - Giants 27, Eagles 21

New York and Philadelphia met in the Wild Card Round of the 1981 NFL Playoffs. The Giants finished the season at 9-7, and were on the road in Philly against the 10-6 Eagles. It was New York, however, that got the upper hand.

  • Leon Bright 9 yard pass from Scott Brunner (6-0 Giants)
  • John Mistler 10 yard pass from Scott Brunner (13-0 Giants)
  • Mark Haynes special teams fumble recovery for TD (20-0 Giants)
  • Tom Mullady 22 yard pass from Scott Brunner

The Giants would lose 38-24 to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round. Ironically, the 49ers are one of two possible opponents for Big Blue if they beat Philadelphia on Saturday.

If you really want a blast from the past, here are highlights from that game:

2000 Divisional Round - Giants 20, Eagles 10

After winning the NFC East with a 12-4 record, Head Coach Jim Fassel and the Giants met up against Andy Reid and the Eagles in the Divisional Round, their third match-up of the season. New York would complete the hat trick over Philadelphia, beating them for the third time en route to a Super Bowl berth.

  • Ron Dixon 97 yard kick-off return (7-0 Giants)
  • Brad Daluiso 37 yard field goal (10-0 Giants)
  • Jason Sehorn 32 yard interception return TD (17-0 Giants)
  • Brad Daluiso 25 yard field goal (20-3 Giants)

The G-Men would HOUSE the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Title Game by a score of 41-0. They ran into an even hotter team in the Super Bowl, however, losing to the Ravens by a final of 34-7.

Here is a look at the highlights from this game:

2006 Wild Card - Eagles 23, Giants 20

In the third of four meetings in the playoffs, the Giants hit the road again, visiting Philly in the "first round" of the playoffs. New York finished the regular season at an even 8-8 under Tom Coughlin, beating the only team worse than them in the NFC East, Washington, in Week 17 to sneak into a Wild Card spot.

They met up with Philadelphia, who under Andy Reid, went 10-6 and won their division. New York gave them quite the game in the playoffs, however.

  • Plaxico Burress 17 yard pass from Eli Manning (7-0 Giants)
  • Jay Feely 20 yard field goal (10-10 tie)
  • Jay Feely 24 yard field goal (13-20 Eagles)
  • Plaxico Burress 11 yard pass from Eli Manning (20-20 tie)

It was on a 38-yard field goal from David Akers, as time expired, that the Eagles were able to overcome the Giants and move onto the Divisional Round. After winning by a field goal, Philly would lose by a field goal, to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints the following week.

Giants' fans may want to look away, but here are a few clips from that game.

2008 Divisional Round - Eagles 23, Giants 11

When you see an NFL team with a final score of "11", you know something probably went wrong, and that's what happened to New York in 2008.

A year after winning the Super Bowl, Eli Manning and the Giants were playing great football once again. They won their division with a 12-4 regular season record, receiving a bye into the Divisional Round in the process. They matched up with Philadelphia, with whom they had split their two match-ups during the regular season, losing the game at Giant Stadium.

Unfortunately for fans of Big Blue, history would repeat itself against the 9-6-1 Eagles.

  • John Carney 22 yard field goal (3-0 Giants)
  • Safety committed by Donovan McNabb (5-7 Eagles)
  • John Carney 34 yard field goal (8-7 Giants)
  • John Carney 36 yard field goal (11-10 Giants)

As it turned out, John Carney's leg was about the only thing that worked for New York that day. Philadelphia would score 13 points unanswered to take the lead, win the game, and eliminate the stunned Giants from the playoffs.

These highlights will also hurt the retinas of Giants' fans, but for those who want to re-live the game anyway, here are the clips from it.

So, New York comes in on a two-game losing streak in the playoffs against the Eagles. Does that grow to three, or can the Giants re-gain control of the match-up on Saturday?
