Capital Region Soccer Star makes TV debut
Soccer fans are filled with excitement right now and it has nothing to do with real soccer matches being played. After three long years of waiting the Apple TV hit starring Jason Sudeikis "Ted Lasso" made its return for its fourth season this week. Capital Region soccer fans especially will notice a cameo from a familiar face in the first episode of the newest season.
About 34 minutes into the episode, the scene cuts to CPKC stadium, home of the Kansas City Current in the National Women's Soccer League. The scene shows some live game action of a Current match against Gotham FC on October 11th, 2025. The first player to come into frame is Bethlehem High School graduate Claire Hutton. Not long after Hutton is shown playing a pass that sets up Temwa Chawinga for a goal, followed by Hutton joining her teammates as they celebrate.
Fans of the show will remember Sudeikis' character Ted Lasso is a Kansas City native and a regular at Current matches. Making the club a natural fit for the premiere episode as the show's plot shifts to women's soccer in season 4. Hutton was a huge part of the 2025 Kansas City Current team. After joining the club in 2024, she helped them win the 2025 NWSL Shield, awarded to the team with the most regular-season points. She also earned NWSL Best XI honors, and was a finalist for midfielder of the year that season. Hutton then transferred to Bay FC ahead of the 2026 season and continues to emerge as a breakout star on the US Women's National Team.
