Two More Tornadoes Confirmed in New York
New York's tornado count for the season keeps climbing.
The National Weather Service has confirmed two more tornadoes, bringing the state's total to 11 tornadoes so far this season.
EF-1 Tornado Hit Broome and Chenango Counties
The stronger of the two tornadoes was an EF-1, with winds estimated around 90 mph.
It touched down near Chenango Forks in Broome County and traveled more than 6 miles into Chenango County, ending near Greene.
The tornado moved through wooded areas, snapping trees, knocking down power lines, and leaving a path of damage along roads.
Thankfully, there were no injuries or deaths reported.
EF-0 Tornado Confirmed in Westchester County
The second tornado was an EF-0 with winds up to 85 mph. It was a short-lived tornado that moved from Purchase toward Rye Brook in Westchester County.
The storm caused some tree damage, including uprooted trees and snapped branches.
The National Weather Service says radar showed the storm had rotation and even picked up debris thousands of feet into the air.
11 Tornados So Far in 2026
From Central New York to the Hudson Valley, it's been a busy year for severe weather. Eleven confirmed tornadoes in one season is a reminder that tornadoes aren't just a Midwest problem — they can and do happen in New York.
The season began with an EF-1 tornado in Machias in Cattaraugus County on March 31.
Two more tornadoes touched down on April 15, one in Machias again and another in Farmersville.
The fourth twister hit near Hammond on April 29.
June brought four more tornadoes to Cortland, Rock Stream, Pittsfield and Croghan.
In July, an EF-1 carved a path from Sanford to Hancock. The latest 2 hit Greene in Chenango County, and the other ran from Purchase to Rye, NY.
The good news: while these storms caused plenty of damage, there were no fatalities or injuries reported.
