It’s been in the works for just about a year to the day, according to a story that I did about the demolition of the historic St. Patrick’s Church in Watervliet.

Price Chopper wants to build a new store on the site on 19th Street.

It’s a sad day for the historians that have been fighting to keep the building, and not tear it down.

In a story that I read in the Times Union, the work will resume to make way for the new Price Chopper. The work was halted not long ago. A heavy duty excavator has been put into place to raze the church building. Testing for, and removing asbestos is expected to be completed by Saturday, April 13, 3013. More demolition is expected in the upcoming week.

During many of the demolition processes, there will be some traffic issues in the area, including closing part of Fifth Avenue, and no parking allowed on a section of Sixth Avenue.
