My wife has been having a very hard time with our son Caden's first of school. I have been mocking her for about a solid week now saying things like, "Guess what they send them home everyday now" and "It's a school bus not a black hole!" The truth of the matter is , I do know what she is going through and it can be a pretty emotional day for a Mom , especially if it is her only little baby who is entering the big boy world.

This morning I scoured the interwebs for something that would express her fears and let her know she is not alone and make her feel a little more validated for her anxiety, I had to go through a whole lot of duds but I eventually found what I think is the perfect poem for Moms in her situation.

It's called, "First Day Of School" and it's by Wendy Silva. I posted it on my personal Facebook page and it blew up, so I hope you like it as much as the other Moms on my page, and feel free to share it with your friends who are going through the same thing this week.

First Day of School

I wonder what you're doing right now

and if everyone is treating you kind.

I hope there is a special person,

a nice friend that you can find.

I wonder if the teacher know just

how special you are to me.

And if the brightness of your heart

is something she can see.

I wonder if you are thinking about

me and if you need a hug.

I already miss the sound of your voice

and how you give my leg a tug.

I wonder if you could possibly understand

how hard it is for me to let you grow.

On this day know that my heart breaks,

for this is the first step in letting my baby go.
