If you grew up in the Capital Region in the 1980s, chances are you have some great memories of summer trips to The Great Escape in Queensbury, back when many of us still called it Storytown.

For my family, the excitement started the moment we headed north on the Northway. We could not wait to get through the gates and make our way to Ghost Town. There was something special about watching Marshal Wild Windy Bill McKay and becoming a deputy for the day.

As much as we loved the rides, one attraction stood above the rest. Literally.

The High Dive Show Was Amazing

The high dive show was always a must-see. We planned our day around the showtimes and made sure to grab seats early on those concrete steps. On hot summer days, getting splashed was part of the fun.

The show had everything: comedy, goofy stunts, crowd interaction, and that tense moment when the diver climbed higher and higher before leaping.

I recently came across an incredible home video on YouTube from "Jack's Spot" that captures a family trip to The Great Escape in 1987. The 34-minute video is a time capsule of the park during its heyday.

You'll see classic attractions like the train, the Skyride, Desperado Plunge, Ghost Town, the circus, motocross shows, live entertainment, and plenty more.

Of course, the highlight is the high dive act that so many of us remember.

Take a look at the video and see if it brings back memories. You never know, you might even spot yourself or someone you know wandering through the park in the background.
