Originally set to film in the Collar City in 2020, "The Gilded Age" will get things going in Troy later this year.

It seems in 2020 pretty much everything got cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic, and that included the filming of an HBO show. But the good news is, "the Gilded Age" will be coming to film in Troy this coming May and June according to a Times Union story. The show was originally supposed to do some filming last June.

The Times Union says scouts are currently looking at various Troy locations for filming and the show wants "...Troy's mansions, office buildings and other icons to stand in for 19th century New York."  Among the potential shooting locations is one of our favorite Capital Region music venues, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Various filming locations in Cohoes and Schaghticoke are also being considered.

HBO says the show is based on late 1800's New York City during a "...period of immense economic change, of huge fortunes made and lost, and the rise of disparity between old money and new" and will have some pretty big names playing roles including Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski.

One thing that has always stuck out to me about downtown Troy is its New York City like character. The architecture and the vibe just screams old New York, and you can enjoy all that charm without all the madness that goes along with New York City. It is a no brainer for shows and movies to film up here, and it is pretty cool for us to see a slice of the Capital Region in so many great TV shows and movies.
