Whether you're a seasoned hunter or just getting started, you can purchase your license online, over the phone, or at any DEC-authorized location. They're valid from September 1 through August 31.

Heading to the Great New York State Fair? You can also grab your hunting, fishing, or trapping license there between August 20 and September 1. Just make sure you bring a credit or debit card because cash isn’t accepted at the Fair’s license station.

For full details on hunting regulations, license requirements, or accessible permits for hunters with disabilities, visit the DEC’s website. You’ll also find the 2025-26 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide online or at any license issuing agent.

Keep an eye on updates, too, because rules around crossbows and electronic harvest tagging may still change before the season starts.
