George Strait’s Final Show Breaks a Ticket Sale Record
George Strait may have already made his last stop on the Cowboy Rides Away Tour, but the record breaking hasn't stopped. Strait's final concert in Arlington, Texas broke not just attendance records -- the singer has also topped an even bigger ticket sales record!
According to Billboard, the show generated close to $18.2 million in ticket sales! That blows last year's record -- also set by Strait -- out of the water. He beat himself by a whopping $10 million dollars.
Since the final tour stop was such a big one, the superstar set a new North American indoor concert attendance record when 104,793 fans fit snugly into the AT&T Stadium. The win was previously held by the Rolling Stones, and for 33 years. The group once played a show for 87.5K attendees.
"The [two-year] Cowboy Rides Away Tour ends its run with an overall gross that tops the $99 million mark based on 996,583 sold tickets at 44 performances during both legs of the tour," Billboard says. Strait sure knows how to put on a show.
Fans who were lucky enough to attend the final George Strait concert heard over 40 songs, and they even got to see a few other big names. Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride were all there to join Strait on stage. They didn't stick to strictly Strait's hits, though. In addition to 20 of his own No. 1s, the legend played cover songs from Johnny Cash, including 'Jackson’ and ‘Folsom Prison Blues.'
