Gas Prices Equal No Disney Trip for My Kids
Oil prices hit $120 a barrel yesterday thanks to the craziness in Libya. That will translate into nearly $4 a gallon or higher gas prices very soon.
I had been planning on taking my kids to Disney this Summer. I have 5 and am a single dad that has to save for everything. My gas budget on an average month at $3.39 per gallon was about $750 per month. Most of that spent on weekends driving to see my kids.
I know that they won't have a problem with it at all. They are just happy to see me pulling in after 3.5 hours of driving and they don't even know about the trip I had planned to begin with.
It hurts me though, and as parents we always want to have those special unforgettable moments that will last a lifetime with our children. They grow up so fast that every chance we get to caputre a moment means more and more as the years go by.
We will have fun, and do something this Summer but it is starting to look like Enchanted Forest and The Great Escape instead of Mickey Mouse and EPCOT.
I think we need to lift that off shore drilling moratorium real quick, and take another look in our own backyard at Anwar and stop letting the rest of the world dictate what we pay for something that we can totally produce to the extent to be self sufficient in our own country.
