In celebration of its 75th anniversary, the Malta Drive-In Theatre is offering free admission to everyone for a special customer appreciation night. This is a great chance to enjoy a night out at the movies without spending a dime!

The free event happens this Thursday, June 27th. After Thursday’s event, the theatre is hosting a pajama party on Friday and Saturday. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas, and those who do will receive free popcorn from the snack bar.

On Thursday, you can watch “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” on screen one or “Wonka” on screen two, with both showtimes at 8:55 p.m. The weekend lineup from Friday through Tuesday includes “Inside Out 2,” “IF,” “A Quiet Place: Day One,” and “The Strangers: Chapter 1.”

The Malta Drive-In Theatre has been a cherished local spot since it was opened by Sarto and Leona Smaldone on July 1, 1949.

Today, there are only twenty-three drive-in theaters still operating in New York State.

New York State has the highest drive-in movie theater screens in the country. That means there's probably one not too far from wherever you are. There are a handful here in the Capital Region. 
Back in the swinging '60s, drive-in theaters were all the rage, with over 4,000 scattered across the country and a whopping one hundred fifty right here in New York State alone. But times have changed, and now only twenty-three of these nostalgic gems are left in New York State. Check them out.
