The Free Fishing Days program, started in 1991, is designed to introduce fishing to those who have never tried the sport. It’s a great way introduce New Yorker's to a new hobby and encourage people to support the sport by purchasing a New York State fishing license.

The day is so popular that New York has increased the number of authorized yearly statewide free fishing days to six.  Veterans Day was first designated by Governor Cuomo as a Free Fishing Day in 2015. February 18 and 19, 2017 are the next two free fishing days.

For a full list of New York waters to fish in today, along with all the details of free fishing day check out the DEC website.
