Frank Caliendo’s Best Sports Impressions Ahead of Schenectady Show
When it comes to doing impressions, few comedians are more well-known than Frank Caliendo.
Born in Chicago, Caliendo rose to notoriety for his impressions on the sketch TV show MadTV. This led him to the job that sports fan know him for best, when he served as the in-house prognosticator, and comic relief, of Fox's NFL pregame show.
As it turns out, Caliendo is coming to Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Event Center on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 4th, and you can click here to get your tickets now.
Caliendo tours the country impersonating some of the most well-known celebrities in the world, many of whom are from the sports world. His current tour is coming to Rivers Casino and Resort Schenectady, and ahead of his stop in the Capital Region, here are some of his best impressions from the sports world.
John Madden
An impression that may stand alone as Caliendo's best (along with his impersonation of George Bush, which we can save for another day), is his take on John Madden. The legendary coach-turned-broadcaster has a unique charisma that no one else has truly embodied in the sports.
That was, of course, until Caliendo gave it a go.
Jon Gruden
Another NFL coach-turned-broadcaster, Gruden rose to fame for his breakdowns of play calls with current NFL quarterbacks. Gruden was a star during his time with ESPN, and before his career was turned upside down by allegations of misconduct, Caliendo joined him on-camera to show Gruden his spin on his personality.
Mel Kiper Jr.
Mel Kiper is one of the top draft analysts for prospective NFL players, and brings high intensity, and a high haircut, to the camera every time he's in front of it. Caliendo went two-for-two in bringing that to life.
Charles Barkley & Bill Walton
Over in the NBA, Caliendo was still able to poke a bit of fun at some of the game's brightest stars. Few broadcasters are more unique, and beloved, than Charles Barkley. Caliendo nailed his impression of him, and mixed in a bit of Bill Walton, to boot.
Mike & Mike in the Morning
It wouldn't be a 104.5 The Team list without some love for ESPN, and that's exactly what Frank Caliendo gave the flagship, in the form of his impersonation of legendary duo Mike Greenberg, and Mike Golic.
Stephen A. Smith
With Mike & Mike roaring in laughter in the background, Caliendo took a shot at the king, impersonating the cornerstone of ESPN's First Take, Stephen A. Smith.
This one is underrated, but possibly, one of his best.
Jerry Jones (as Bob Ley)
Caliendo pulled double duty on this last impression, posing as the host of Outside the Lines, Bob Ley, before pivoting to the role of the interview guest. That guest was a man who feels like he's impersonating himself sometimes, Jerry Jones, and Caliendo nailed his likeness, as well.
Which one was your favorite? Did we miss any? Hopefully, he'll hit some of these checkmarks at his show at Rivers!
