First Big Snow Of 2024 Forecast For New York: How Much In Upstate?
New York state is forecast to get its first big snow of the season this weekend, but Albany and areas Upstate could be spared the worst of it.
If you love snow, this is exactly the story you DO NOT want to see. A big storm is forming out west, tracking for New York state - but at this point, it looks like the strongest snowfall could be just to our south. Which means maybe a little bit of snow for Albany?
Accuweather Tracking Northeast Storm This Weekend
It is too early to tell at this point what its exact path will be, but AccuWeather is tracking a storm developing out west that will make its way to the Northeast this weekend and could bring the biggest snowfall in two years to the Northeast corridor. This could be a nice change of pace for snow lovers in the New York City area. which just had its least snowy year on record according to NBC News.
How Much Snow Is In the Albany Forecast?
This is where Upstate NYers will be disappointed, or if you hate snow, thrilled!
The snow is expected to fall late Saturday to Sunday evening. AccuWeather is predicting 6 to 12 inches in the main path of the storm, but right now their local forecast for Albany is only calling for 1 to 3 inches as the Capital Region looks like it is right on the edge of the main band of snow with this storm. The snow amount from this one will depend on the storm tracking closer to the coast to bring more snow, or vice versa. Based on AccuWeather's current snow map, most of Upstate New York may be on the outside looking in on this one.
We will keep an eye on this one and pass along more accurate snowfall predictions from our friends at WNYT News Channel 13 when they come into more focus!
