Father’s Day: Do I Buy My Mom a Present?
Father's Day is a weird time of year for me. My Father hasn't really been in my life since I was about 4 so it's been just my Mother and me as far back as I can remember. Whenever this day comes around I don't know what to do.
It's not that I have any ill will toward the man, we just don't have a relationship. When I was in middle school, my Mother would make me go to the Father/Daughter picnics and things like that. When I got to college, which was closer to where he lived, we'd maybe meet up for dinner once every couple of months or so. Since then, there hasn't really been a relationship.
Every time Father's Day comes around, it's not that I dislike it. Dad's are great and I'm lucky enough that friend's dads and family members who are dads have taken me inas their own. I just don't know if I'm supposed to celebrate it. I'm not going to call my Father, we don't have that kind of relationship but the next closest thing in my life is my Mother. Do I celebrate Father's Day with her since she's pretty much taken on that roll? Do I buy her a present or is it strictly for Dad's?
