New Florida Direct Flight Takes Off From Upstate NY Airport

Breeze Airways is now offering a brand new direct flight from Albany International Airport to sunny Fort Myers, and the timing could not be better.

The cold weather has settled into the Capital Region, and it looks like it is here to stay. For many, it's all the motivation they need to plan a quick escape, and this new option makes it even easier.

The seasonal route goes between Albany International Airport and Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. Flights run on Wednesdays and Saturdays, giving travelers two easy opportunities each week to head south.

Breeze now flies direct from Albany, South Carolina, Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and Fort Myers. The airline also connects travelers to a few other destinations through Raleigh-Durham with a simple no-change stop on the way to Orlando.

Right now, Breeze is the only airline flying direct between Albany and Fort Myers. Southwest will also offer direct flights, but they will not begin until February. Florida continues to be one of the most popular travel spots for people flying out of Albany. Out of the roughly twenty-five direct connections from Albany, nine of them head to Florida.

More options are on the way, too. Allegiant recently announced new direct service to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport starting in February. Breeze itself is still fairly new to the Capital Region after first arriving this past June. The airline was founded in 2021 and has been growing quickly with service to more than eighty cities across the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Albany International Airport is also in the middle of major upgrades, including a large terminal expansion, a renovation of concourse A, and two future gates.
