New Retail & Restaurants Coming to Colonie Center Parking Lot?
If you have ever driven by the south end of Colonie Center and thought there was a lot of empty parking, you are not wrong. That large stretch of pavement near Whole Foods and Floor and Decor could soon look very different.
Developers are planning to convert some of that underused parking lot space into several new businesses. The area sits on about 20 acres along Central Avenue, and it is considered one of the busiest and most visible corners in the Capital Region.
What Is Being Proposed?
The idea is to fill in some of that space with a few convenient spots people can actually use. Plans include a small coffee shop with a drive-thru right near Central Avenue. Not far from that, there could be a larger restaurant with a drive-thru as well.

Another big addition would be a 12,000-square-foot commercial building closer to Whole Foods. Part of that space is expected to become an emergency veterinary clinic, so pet owners would have a place to go if something happens after normal office hours. There is also the possibility that a quick-service restaurant could move into the same building.
Do We Know Who Will Be Moving In?
The developer says leases are already being worked out, but the names of the businesses are not being shared just yet. What he did say is that the brands will be familiar to people in the area.
Some improvements are also planned for the parking lot itself. New sidewalks, crosswalks, signs, and landscaping are part of the proposal to make the area safer and easier to get around.
