Jim Boeheim's Wife, Juli, Held at Gunpoint in Syracuse
According to a report filed by CBS News 6 in Albany, Juli Boeheim was held at gunpoint, and robbed, in the parking lot outside the Destiny USA Mall in Syracuse, New York on Tuesday afternoon.
The article asserts that police in the area received a call, coming from the Cheesecake Factory in the mall, confirming that the crime had taken place.
According to the police report, Boeheim was approached by someone who was perceived to be a teenager, and possibly as young as 12, who started a conversation before pulling a firearm on Boeheim.
No suspect is currently in custody, but luckily, no one was hurt in the exchange.
First and foremost, we are grateful that Ms. Boeheim is alright. Experiences like these are undoubtedly rattling, and we hope that she is able to get the support she needs in order to overcome such a traumatic experience.
That being said, the next emotion that this crime evokes, is sadness.
The report details that the suspect could've been as young as TWELVE YEARS OLD. That's a pre-teen child, carrying a firearm, using the excuse of "needing to call his mom" as a mechanism to catch an innocent person off-guard, and rob them. It breaks my heart that a child, who may be on their own in the world at such a young age, is resorting to this kind of crime in order to get by.
It's a sad, sad story. We are beyond grateful that Ms. Boeheim is alright; that goes without saying. That said, it is heartbreaking to learn who the perpetrator was. The hope here, is that if the police are able to find the person in question, there is still time for them to straighten their life out.
More to come on this one.
