We recently had the chance to visit with Country Music Hall of Famer Charley Pride on WGNA's Sunday Morning Classic Country Show.  The 'Kiss An Angel Good Morning' singer has quite an inspirational story to share.

Pride broke the color barriers and became the first African American singer to conquer commercial Country Music, and held that title until Darius Rucker hit the top in 2008. Pride spoke about his acceptance with Country Music fans as he began his career in the '60s.  At the time, racial tensions were high, especially among the conservative southern country music listeners.  However, Pride explains that the fans were actually quite accepting right from the beginning.

Now, at 74 Pride continues to tour and sing the songs that made him a star.  Click below to hear what Charley Pride had to say about starting out in Country Music as an African American performer.
