Capital Region Thruway Rest Area Reopens With New Shake Shack, More
After its May opening was pushed back, a Captial Region rest area is once again offering eats and more to Thruway travelers.
Just in time for the 4th of July travel surge a New York Thruway rest area that is known as a 'gateway to the Capital Region' is back open for business almost 2 years after closing. It was big news when several Thruway rest areas closed a couple of years ago because of some of the popular eateries that were being planned.
According to a story from Porcupine Soup, the New Baltimore service area started welcoming travelers this past Thursday, June 29th. The service area closed in July of 2021 to undergo renovations, the most noteworthy of which are some new restaurants.
Upon opening, a new Shake Shack burger joint, Starbucks, and Applegreen convenience store are all now open for business. There are also Chick-Fil-A and Panera Restaurants which are expected to be opening at the rest area soon.
Since it closed in the summer of 2021, only gas has been available at the rest area so the new food options and reopened bathrooms will be a welcome sight for the annual Upstate influx of 4th of July holiday weekend travelers.
