The Capital Region is known for great Italian food and really great pizzerias. One of our great local chefs making those pizzas is getting worldwide recognition for his culinary skill.

Throughout Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and all points in between, we have some fabulous pizzerias throughout the Capital Region. Spots like Dom's, DeFazio's, Kay's, Marino's, Red Front, and so many others - there is no shortage of great pizza spots in the area.

So it should come as no surprise that one of our very own local pizza chefs has been named not one of the best in the region or in New York, or even in the nation. We are talking best in the WORLD!

Glenmont Pizza Chef Named Best in the World

On the outside, Romo's Pizza in Glenmont may seem like a pretty unassuming pizza joint. But on the inside, there is some earth-shattering amazing pizza-creating happening! As reported by New York Upstate Romo's chef Anthony Berghela came in 3rd place for Pizza Maker of the Year at the 2023 International Pizza Challenge in the Traditional Division. His score also placed him at #1 overall in the Northeast!

New York Upstate says Berghela opened Romo's in 2009 and has become a highly regarded and pizza aficionado favorite in the Capital Region, known for its Brookly/New Haven Style pizza which has also won awards in other pizza competitions in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Looks like it may be time to have a new vote on our best Capital Region pizzerias listed below as Romo's legend and reputation grows as one of the best in the area due to Bergehla's pizza-making acumen!
