How Did The Independence Day Fireworks Celebrations Start?

History.com says the 1777 4th of July celebration in Philadelphia featured 13 ship cannons firing a salute in honor of the 13 original United States colonies while fireworks were launched in Boston. Hence, the tradition of fireworks for the 4th was born, and it continues in a big way in the Capital Region this year.
