Boot Camps Held For Volunteers To Travel For Hurricane Harvey Relief
With the devastation from Hurricane Harvey and the tropical storm still hitting Texas, the American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to head to the affected areas to help. Our local chapter, the American Red Cross of Eastern NY, is willing to train you. Fifteen Red Cross volunteers from our area have been deployed to support those affected in Texas. But many more volunteers are needed and our local Red Cross is holding boot camps to train those who can help.
If you want to volunteer, you must be willing and able to serve in the affected areas for a minimum of 14 consecutive days within the next month. Your travel expenses and training costs will be covered by the Red Cross.
You must attend a training boot camp from 9am until 6pm (see schedule below). Training will include orientation and information for new volunteers. There will be a comprehensive overview of the relief operations during large scale disasters. This particular training will focus on sheltering and prepare volunteers to assist people affected in a safe place to help them with a variety of needs.
