Beware of Coyotes in North Greenbush
It's that time of year to be on the lookout for wild animals coming close to residences looking for food. The North Greenbush Police Department is warning residents to be aware of numerous coyote sightings. Here's what they know. According to CBS 6 Albany, there is a specific area of North Greenbush that has seen an influx in coyote sightings. The coyotes have been seen in the Lake Meadows neighborhood of North Greenbush just off of Route 4 near 136.
Because of the heavy snowstorm, the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) says that the coyotes are making their presence known due to them having trouble finding food. They say that they will travel closer to neighborhoods to search for food easier.
The DEC is also warning pet owners to make sure you keep a close eye on your dog when taking them outside. Coyotes are afraid of humans so they are urging pet owner to go out with your dog on a leash even during the day.
Coyotes are all around us in the Capital Region and like most wild animals, they go where the food is. They are coming around because they want to eat. The DEC warns of residents feeding the animals.
I saw a coyote in real life over the summer for the first time. Believe it or not, I saw one by the Albany International Airport. It was about one in the afternoon and I thought it was a stray dog. He walked into the road so I slowed down and realized it was a coyote. He just sauntered across the street and ran into the woods.
