‘Batman vs. Superman’ Will Show the Death of Batman’s Parents, Which You Are Totally Not Tired of Seeing
It’s just not a movie featuring Bruce Wayne/Batman unless you have the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents, thus explaining his mopey origins, is it? Zack Snyder would agree, and so would some new set photos from ‘Batman vs. Superman,’ which confirm that we will see Thomas and Martha Wayne shot to death yet again, just in case you’re not sick of seeing that happen. Seriously? Again? Again-again-again?
According to these photos posted to Instagram by Dan Marcus, we now know that we will have to sit through the miserable murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne yet again. Just as every new ‘Spider-Man‘ franchise has to introduce Spidey’s origins, so must every single piece of Batman fiction show us how his parents died and how this informed his life choices. And we were pretty sure that Batman’s song in ‘The LEGO Movie‘ gave us the definitive, concise explanation of the Caped Crusader’s origins.
At any rate, the photos seem to prove that we’ll see Bruce Wayne’s parents being murdered via flashback in some capacity, given the movie theater setting, and ‘The Mark of Zorro’ – featured on both a poster and on the marquee – a film which was famously shown the night his parents died. The poster is for the 1940 version of the film, which was referenced in Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns,’ which Snyder has said served as an influence on his upcoming film.
The marquee also shows that the theater is playing ‘Excalibur,’ released in 1981 – something to think about for all of you trying to crack the timeline and figure out how old Ben Affleck‘s Batman would be in this film.
