April Kry sends her voice up to the heavens on a powerful new cover of Chris Stapleton's "Fire Away," giving the tune an acoustic gospel treatment that will send chills down the sturdiest spine.

Kry is joined by an acoustic guitarist and the Dames at Westlight Studios in Franklin, Tenn., just outside of Nashville for the performance, which she captured live. In the video above, which is debuting exclusively with Taste of Country, Kry starts off with admirable restraint, delivering a tightly controlled vocal over simple acoustic picking during the first verse and chorus.

She builds in intensity and volume through the second verse, then lets out with a rattle-the-rafters vocal turn in the second chorus. The Dames join Kry in powerful, crystalline gospel harmonies, transforming the rustic studio space into a country cathedral with an a capella breakdown before Kry brings the track to a scorching close with an incendiary high note on the final phrase.

"Fire Away" appeared on Stapleton's breakthrough debut album, Traveller, in 2015. The powerful video for "Fire Away" won Music Video of the Year at the 2016 CMA Awards.

Kry released her debut EP, Music Speaks, in 2012, and has made some inroads with her single, “Beauty Queen.” Another single, “Fireflies” brought her to a whole new audience via SiriusXM's The Highway. In July Kry teamed with Taste of Country RISERS artist Kalie Shorr for a cover of John Mayer's country song, "In the Blood." Take a look at some of Shorr's RISERS highlights below.
