Fox to Air New American Country Countdown Awards
There's a new awards show happening in Music City, and it will take the place of the annual American Country Awards (ACAs).
The ACAs premiered in 2010, with the awards based entirely on fans' online votes. Each year, they took place in Las Vegas, and Trace Adkins and NASCAR's Danica Patrick hosted them last year. However, the new American Country Countdown Awards are expected to replace the ACAs.
Fox, Cumulus and Dick Clark Productions have partnered for the American Country Countdown Awards, and they will air Monday, Dec. 15, from Nashville. The show will be two hours long, featuring performances and awards, along with the presentation of a 'Nash Icons' award.
The brand-new awards show is named after the country radio countdown series, which began in 1973 with comedian Dan Bowman as its host. American country radio personality Bob Kingsley took over, until country star Kix Brooks took his place in 2006.
"Fans of the American Country Countdown are some of the most loyal and passionate fans around, so it's a natural next step to bring that popular brand to television," says Fox EVP/Alternative Entertainment Simon Andreae.
DCP President Mike Mahan adds, "Through [this partnership], we are able to create an innovative and new television format honoring superstars and spectacular emerging talent that fuel American country radio."
A host for the American Country Countdown Awards has not yet been named, but it seems likely that Brooks would be in the running, since he's hosted the long-running countdown series for several years now.
