Meet The Latest Inductees At The National Toy Hall Of Fame
The National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester has officially announced its 2025 inductees. This year, the spotlight is on Battleship, Slime, and Trivial Pursuit. These toys rose to the top from a list of twelve finalists and are now featured at The Strong National Museum of Play.
Battleship began as a simple pencil-and-paper strategy game. By the 1930s, printed versions were appearing, and the familiar plastic edition arrived in the late 1960s.
The game went on to sell more than one hundred million copies and became one of the first board games to be adapted for computers.
Over the years, it has expanded into electronic versions, digital apps, and even inspired a major motion picture. Its lasting appeal comes from the mix of strategy and luck that keeps players guessing with every move.
Slime is in the hall of fame thanks to its timeless tactile appeal. First sold commercially in nineteen seventy six, it quickly became a hit with kids who loved its stretch and squish factor.
Today there are endless varieties, including glitter-filled versions and do-it-yourself recipes that take over kitchen tables everywhere.
Slime encourages hands-on play, messy creativity, and sensory fun. It even offers a calming or therapeutic benefit for some children who enjoy its soothing texture.
Trivial Pursuit rounds out the list with its brain-teasing questions. Launched more than forty years ago, it challenges players to show off their knowledge in categories ranging from geography to entertainment.
The race to collect colorful pie wedges has become a familiar family tradition. The game now comes in themed editions, digital versions, and online quizzes. With more than one hundred million copies sold, it remains a go-to choice for trivia lovers of all ages.
The National Toy Hall of Fame continues to honor toys that spark imagination and stand the test of time.
