As you start planning those spring and summer getaways, two local travel destinations have been named two of the best in the nation.

It is one of the real benefits of living in Upstate New York: we have so many great natural wonders and local towns to visit for fun. Maine calls itself Vacationland, but we really could make the same argument here in the Empire State. There is no shortage of places to visit for a day or for a weekend getaway or a weeklong vacation. Two of those destinations are getting national recognition from Travel + Leisure on their list of the 50 Best Places to Travel.

First, the Berkshires landed at #3 on their rankings. About the Berkshires, the magazine says "City Dwellers have been visiting the region of gently rolling hills and charmingly sedate towns...since the 19th century, but a welcome boost of youthful energy arrived with...2018" citing an influx of "design-forward hotels" as part of the revival.

Also landing on these travel rankings is the Catskills landed at #10. Travel + Leisure also cites a great influx of new hotels and resorts, along with the Catskills' beautiful ranges, as great reasons to head south of Albany.

Considering how local both of these destinations are, there really is no need to take a travel magazine's word about how great they are. Jump in the car and take that mini-road trip and explore. And maybe sooner rather than later, you know, before everyone catches on!

If you are up for a farther jaunt, Buffalo (#7) and Burlington, Vermont (#8) also landed on Travel + Leisures rankings.
