Saratoga - Two Saratoga fishermen had to be rescued yesterday from the middle of Saratoga Lake around noon Thursday.  An area resident contacted police and firefighters raced an airboat to the middle of the lake.  They rescued Don Mattice of Saratoga Springs and Darryl Lallande of Mandeville, Louisiana from thinning ice flow. Fortunately, neither man was injured. .

North Greenbush - A 22-year old man died this week after his motorcycle crashed near the intersection of Williams Road and Meadow Drive, not far from Hudson Valley Community College. Jared Brenz died after his 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle barreled into the back of Ford Escape.  According to the police chief, Brenz was driving wildly, accelerating hard and crossing the double-line of the two-lane road.

Albany - Last week we heard about the city of Albany tossing around the idea of banning smoking near city playgrounds and ball fields. Last night, the city council voted to ban tobacco use in Albany’s outside recreational areas. The 13-1 vote came easily. County Health Commissioner Dr. James Crucetti spoke and heavily endorsed the prohibition.

Stuyvesant - State Police have charged a man from Stuyvesant with one count each of felony disseminating indecent material to a minor and misdemeanor child endangerment. 27-year old Anthony Link has been accused of having inappropriate sexual conversations online with an underage girl and sending her lewd photos.  Apparently, he had been corresponding with the girl for months through a social networking outlet. Link is listed as the fire captain of Stuyvesant Fire Company.
