It's a big week in the region. It is the week of arguably the 3rd or 4th biggest horse race of the year.

A lot of horse playing enthusiasts really believe that the historic Travers at Saratoga Race Course should be the third jewel of the Triple Crown. The race that many passionate betters and race lovers believe is weak is The Preakness, the second leg of the current Triple Crown format. The Travers field is going to be deep this year. The entire week has been mobbed at the track and Country 107.7, WGNA-FM is taking the Sean and Richie Show to Saratoga Race Course this Friday to get you all jacked up for the big race this Saturday. We'll be live from 6-10am and if you're free in the morning or better yet, have the day off we would love to see you all at this great on location broadcast. This will be the 142nd running of the Travers Stakes. The early odds seem to be leaning to Stay Thirsty. I spent some time handicapping the race, and if there are no scratches and the lineup holds I will be making a pawltry $10 in bets for the race. I'll put a $2 exacta box on Ruler on Ice and Coil (4-7), and a $1 triple box on Ruler on Ice, Coil and Shackleford (4-7-10). We'll see, and "may the horse be with you". I'm staying away from Stay Thirsty in this race.  Here's the current potential lineup and post positions for The Travers on Saturday. The 142nd running of the Travers will be carried live nationally by NBC-TV, locally Channel 13 WNYT.
