A year or so ago when I got my first manual transmission car, I was ecstatic. Other drivers make it angering though.

Now, going in, I knew how to drive my car, but I wasn't perfect at it.  I knew the concept and I had driven a stick shift numerous times. A few things that made it tough, first off I live on the outskirts of Troy. That means hills, hills and more hills. Like anyone in the situation, I was in dread taking off on a hill when you are still getting used to a clutch.

That brings me to the worst thing about driving a manual, at least in my opinion. When I am sitting on a steep hill and I look in my mirror and can't even see the headlights of the car behind me. That is just so stupid. It also is someone asking for me to roll back and tap their bumper. Luckily I am used to the clutch at this point and now have a bit of fun with this.

I don't know if this counts as defensive driving or I just want to scare the living daylight out of the moron behind me that doesn't know I drive a stick shift. Okay, its the second option. I will let it roll back just a little bit more than normal to freak them out. My ultimate hope is to show other drivers on the road that being too close to someone on a hill is very dangerous.

Drive a manual transmission? What's your pet peeve about it?
