For about nine straight years the Albany Aqua Ducks offered open air tours of the City of Albany in a vehicle that was half bus and half boat. They would take you around some of the historic and scenic sites around the Albany, then you would plunge into the Hudson River to continue your tour and take in some of the area history and scenery from the vantage point of the water.

The Aqua Ducks started doing tours with their two vehicles in 2004. They were very popular, not only for people visiting, but for long time residents of the Capital Region who wanted to take in Albany from a different perspective. Tours would generally run about 90 minutes.

Over its nine year run, it's estimated that the Aqua Ducks carried around 175,000 tourists around the city and into the river. There were also about 40 people employed by the Aqua Ducks.

In 2012, Aqua Ducks owner Robert Wolfgang sold the two vehicles to a company out of state. Not much was known about the sale and the buyer wanted his or her identity kept private. July 15, 2012 was the day the ducks died in Albany.

However, There were plans to revive the tours. In 2017 a new company called Albany Super Ducks was formed and they planned on re-launching the land and sea tours of the city that summer. A 'launch' event was held at Tri-Centennial Park in Albany that June and tickets were sold for future tours. At that time, though, the owners were having a hard time getting insurance due to accidents and mishaps with similar tours in the country. The new owners said the cost of insurance just didn't make fiscal sense and the planned return was nixed.

RIP Albany Aqua Ducks, you are missed.
