Upstate NY Farm Sending Special Xmas Gift to Troops Overseas
Sometimes it's the little things that mean so much to our troops overseas. While many of our brave men and women won't be home for the holidays, there is an Upstate New York farm that is delivering a special part of Christmas directly to them.
Saratoga County Farm Sending Special Part of Christmas Overseas
Ellms Farms in Ballston Spa was the site for gathering and sending over one hundred fifty Christmas trees to service men and women overseas. It's an annual event called Trees for Troops.
Many volunteers from a variety of military agencies pitched in. This included the Air National Guard and the New York Army.
According to News 10 ABC, this is the nineteenth year for this special program and Ellms Farms' owner Garth Ellms has been a part of it from the beginning which started in 2005.
Garth says he loves that the Christmas trees end up in such a unique setting. He told News 10 ABC,
It’s the wildest thing to see a green Christmas tree in the middle of the desert in Afghanistan and to hear from our servicemen and women what that means to them.
Service men and women say that the trees offer a sense of home and that family and friends are supporting them overseas during the holiday season.
This year marks the nineteenth year of "Trees for Troops" and since 2005 the program has delivered over three hundred thousand Christmas trees!
