I remember when I was younger, I would go shopping with my Mom at Stuyvesant Plaza and we would always stop at TCBY Frozen Yogurt.  It short of became a ritual for outings/shopping with Mom and is one of the fondest childhood memories I have of spending time with her.

Unfortunately, TCBY Yogurt left the area in the late 90s and didn't make their return until this year.  That's right!  TCBY Yogurt is back and better than ever.  Despite having a few changes to the way they do things, it's back and even tastier than I remember.

You might remember the old Denny's Restaurant on Western Avenue, adjacent to Stuyvesant Plaza.  Denny's left a year or two ago, and Five Guys is now occupying one side of the building and TCBY is occupying the other.  If you aren't sure of this location, the address is 1512 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY.

Now, on to the best part.  When I use to go to TCBY they had numerous topping options and depending on the day, you could get say strawberry frozen yogurt or raspberry frozen yogurt and if you wanted to be really daring you could have them swirled with vanilla.  The unfortunate part about the old TCBY was that the flavors were limited for that day and while it made you branch out and try new flavors, it could be slightly disheartening if you're only in the mood for chocolate, but peach and black raspberry were your only two choices.

The new TCBY has all the flavors AND, you take as much as you want.  It's kind of like a make your own sundae, frozen yogurt parlor.  You walk to the back where the wall of levers are.  You pick a flavor from any of the twelve that are labeled.  And if your flavor of choice is sharing a lever window with another flavor you also like, you can swirl them.  Or you can walk down to another lever and just add a second flavor on top of the first.  Pretty cool, right?

Then you take your dish of yogurt to the toppings counter and there, behold!  Topping heaven!  36 choices of sprinkling goodness.  There's fresh fruit, there's crumbled cookies, there's candy (any kind you can imagine), there's chocolate chips, there's peanut butter chips, there's nuts, brownies and how can you forget sprinkles!  Plus, right at the end of the topping counter, are more levers of hot fudge, low sugar hot fudge, caramel, and walnuts in hot fudge.

Finally, when you're all done loading your dish of frozen yogurt up with whatever you can imagine, you simply weigh the dish and wah-la!  You have a low fat frozen yogurt sundae with plenty of toppings that only you can call a masterpiece!  Not only will you love yours, but bring the family and everyone will have fun making their sundae and enjoying how much their hardwork paid off!

Have you tried out the new TCBY Yogurt?  When I went, I had chocolate and coffee frozen yogurt with chocolate chips, heath bar pieces and hot fudge.  What did you have?  I want to know how crazy your sundae was.
