Recently, there seems to be more and more articles in the paper about pets being left "out in the cold" or in a dumpster because no one wants to unexpected litter of kittens/pups or the mother of the said litter because maybe they can't afford the pet anymore or some other absurd reason.

Sometimes you just need to escape.  You've been watching too much news.  You're worried about the economy, paying the rent, and all the rest.  You need a break.  You need Jedi Kittens!

If you had to evacuate your home immediatly, I'm sure you would try to save all members of your family, including your pets.  Sadly, that's not the case for some people who evacuated during Tropical Storm Irene.  I truly believe that if it's not safe for you to stay, it's not safe for your pet to stay.  Regardless, several animals are lost and looking for their families.
