Mechanicville is in for one amazing and magical sweet treat moving into the city. It will replace the Golden Krust spot that closed down a few months ago. Stacie Blair owner of the Sugar Fairy Bakes will be fulfilling one of her dreams. She will be finally opening her own bakery.

Who is The Sugar Fairy?

Stacie Blair was a transplant to Mechanicville. When she was in her twenties her mom moved there and in 2007, her husband and their two children followed. She always loved to bake and would do it often with her paralyzed grandmother growing up. She said she always wanted to be a baker but didn't seem it would be possible until 2019 when she took a chance.

Stacie baked a few of her specialties and set them up at the Mechanicville Farmers Market at the library. She thought she made too much but wound up selling out of everything. A few people took her card and then she was off and baking. She said that once word spread, her kitchen was overloaded with 50 or more orders a day. She said the real "wake-up call" was her first pie sale. She created over 100 pies in just 48 hours in a 600 square ft space. Oh, and she had one oven that baked only 4 pies at a time.

Stacie Says Baking Her Specialties Has Made Great Relationships

Stacie said that the pandemic actually helped her connect with her customers. They would order online and set up either pick-up orders or delivery which helped her get to know who she was baking for. She said:

I would have never had the pleasure of knowing them, or their families if it wasn’t for my cinnamon buns or pop tarts!  They welcomed me with open arms and it’s because of their continued support that I am able to make this next step.

Moving into New Location is a Dream Becoming Reality

Stacie said that she knew Jay who owned Golden Krust Bakery and the location in Mechanicville. She had spoken to him in late September about taking over the bakery. When the opportunity presented itself, shortly after they closed, Stacie knew it was the right time. Just recently she secured a small business loan and leased the prime property on the corner of Park Avenue and Central Avenue in Mechanicville.

When will The Sugar Fairy Bakes Open?

The Sugar Fairy Bakes bakery hopes to open its doors at the new location by December 15th. It will start out as a full-functioning bakery along with selling local coffee, and its homemade vanilla extract. Hopefully, by spring of next year, they will be serving breakfast sandwiches. But right now it's baby steps and excitement for Stacie able to see her dream of her bakery coming true.
